Vassily Kandinsky
The Russian full name of Sily Vasilyevich Kandinsky has become one of the most important representatives of modern painting. He has also been considered by some art historians as the creator of abstract painting.
His father was a native of Kyakhta, located near the Chinese border with Siberia, and his mother was Russian, Wassily was born on December 16, 1866 in Moscow. As a child, he toured many cities with the facilities of his wealthy family. He completed his secondary education in Odessa in 1871. During his high school years, he was painting and also gave piano and cello concerts amateurishly.in 1886, he began studying law and economics at Moscow University. in 1893, he received an academic title equivalent to doctor of philosophy.in 1896, he turned down an offer of a professorship from the University of Dorpat in Estonia and decided to give himself up to painting at the age of 30.He went to Munich and worked there for four years under Anton Azbe. Because he knew German well and moved to Munich, where the old Russian nationalists mostly lived. In Azbe's workshop, he met Alexei Von Jamlensky and Franz Marc. between dec900 and 1908, the Moscow Union of Artists held exhibitions with him. On the other hand, he entered the Munich art environment. After studying at local art schools, he founded the Phalanx group of artists. He was a talented artist in all ways, and later became a teacher of the Phalanx group, where he was previously a student. in 1901, he took his place in the history of art as a name given by Kandinski and his friends to a group of artists aimed at expanding the opportunities for artists to open exhibitions. The formation was actively involved in the Munich art environment until 1904. it was during this period that he met Gabriele Münter, with whom he lived together for 10 years. in 1904, Kandinsky and Münter began their 4-year trip to Venice, Tunisia, the Netherlands, France and Russia. During their trips, they studied the art approaches of impressionists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gauguin and Claude Monet. in 1908, they moved back to Munich and settled there.
Later, this group was followed by bands such as Sezession in Berlin and Die Brücke in Dresden. He continued studying art until 1900.in 1903, he held his first solo exhibition in Moscow, and a year later, two more solo exhibitions were held in Poland.Kandinsky began his famous improvisations in 1909. in 1911, Kandinsky, Münter and other friends broke off ties with the association of traditional artists in Munich and formed the Der Blaue Reiter (Blue Cavalry) movement. Two years later, this new group had already gathered around him such important creators of the time as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Robert Delaunay and Paul Klee under the leadership of Kandinsky.
Kandinsky's first work as an abstract painter was the “First Abstract Watercolor” of 1910. in 1911, together with Franz Marc, he founded the Blaue Reiter (Blue Cavalry)movement. in his book “The Soul in Art”, published in 1912, the artist talks about the freedom of lyrical abstraction in his inner world.
in 1914, when the war began, Gabriele Münter stayed in Munich, Kandinskiy returned to Russia and married Nina Andrevskaya. They had a child, who was named Vsevolod Kandinsky.In 1917, he settled in Moscow. in 1918, he was appointed a professor at the Moscow Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the art department of the People's Commissariat of Education, and was honored by the state with a solo exhibition.After Kandinsky gained international fame, he immediately accepted an offer made in 1922 to teach at the dec design school Bauhaus School.During his years of teaching at the Bauhaus School, he wrote his first book, “On Sexuality in Art”.
In 1926, he published his second book, ”Point and Line According to the Plane".In 1928, he became a German citizen, but after the closure of the Bauhaus School, he emigrated to France in 1933. In 1939, he also became a French citizen and lived in Neuilly sur, Seine, Paris, until his death on December 13, 1944.
His Important Works are: The First Abstract Watercolor, Blue Mountain, Bell Tower Landscape, Black Lines with Black Arch, White Lines, Blue Circle Slice, Dominant Purple, Dominant Curve, Fifteen, Moderation, Movements, Division Unity, Circle and Square, White Balanced Movement.
